A great component of occupational therapy is that it creates a facility which encourages best practices and provides therapy all while performing every day tasks. This photo is of some of our campers who practiced school readiness by sitting still and remaining focused for an hour and twenty-seven minutes. Board games are an excellent tool to help work on rule following, communication, effortful control, and, for this particular game, math skills! Not only did this experience offer social forms of therapy, it also requires children to practice the fine motor tasks of placing the small pegs into the correct spaces on the car, moving the appropriate car without knocking over others, and ensuring they didn't knock over all the pegs within their own car (as Ms. Amanda often did!). We were very proud of the attention our campers showed through their actions, and proud of the problem solving skills they demonstrated when helping each other determine how to best pay for a house or which path of life to take. All done while having fun in the process!
